The Ironton Rail Trail is a converted railroad track. The railraod was used from 1860 through 1996 and was abandoned in 1984. In 1996 the track was purchased and re-purposed, the track is now a paved path located just north of Whitehall. The trail is a total of 9.2 miles and includes a 5.5 mile loop. The 3,002-acre Beltzville State Park is in the southern foothills of the Poconos. Pohopoco Creek, an excellent trout stream, feeds the 949-acre Beltzville Lake, which is a rest stop for migrating waterfowl and is a destination for boaters and anglers. Covered Bridge Park is the largest park in South Whitehall Township. Pavilions are available for special event and party rentals for a $100 fee for non-residents and $25 fee for residents of the township. Reservations must be made through the township in person at the township office during their business hours (8am-4pm).
