In the delightful folk tale “Stone Soup” a weary traveler tells a village that he can make a delicious soup from water and a stone. The story goes on to show that the magic wasn’t in the stone; it was in the power of the community. The same thing can be found in nature, where a community is a group of interdependent organisms of different species growing or living together in a specified habitat. Each species adds to the community and depends on all others within the habitat. Prior to our hike, we’ll start two big pots of “Stone Soup” over an open fire. Please bring a vegetable, fresh or canned, to add to the community pots. We’ll have beef-based and vegetarian soup. While the soups are simmering, we’ll walk the trails at PWS. The walk is appropriate for children of all ages. Dogs on leash are welcome.
